This Boluda tug at the stern of the tanker is a Voith Tractor. True tractors such as Voith and a few European z-drives,unlike the Québec ones, have their propellers fwd. Their towing winch is on the after deck and they work stern first. They also can turn more easily that way.

I noticed this practice in EU. Her I saw photographed this situation only once and was told it is not the standard practice and was an error . I believe those tugs are all azimuth drives I think. Could somebody explain the differences in docking practices. Thank you!
