I am not sure on the kiel kanal,,but in transit areas it is a rule that the anchor has to be stand by to be dropped, sometimes the request is that the anchor is outside the hawser pipe and sometimes not. The forecastle has to be manned all the time by one person which can be contacted via VHF asnd/ot intercom at anytime

Apart from having deck crew communicating with the bridge via radio, that anchor gear is up & secure, is there any other means that the OOW knows that everything is in order? I notice the anchor still hanging near the bow.
